I’m Not An Artist
I’m not an artist and I think that’s pretty self apparent. Watch any of my painting guides and you will see. I use basic techniques to achieve a table top standard. My goal with all of my painting videos is to help someone paint. To encourage them to pick up a brush and turn the grey plastic into something better.
Just because I film battle reports and painting videos doesn’t make me the expert. I consider myself the average hobbyist. My family comes first, my work and then my hobby.
Over the years, the hobby has become more professionalized. Artists are able to take little grey plastic miniatures and turn them into masterpieces. Platforms like YouTube, Instagram and Facebook have given them the ability to share these creations with broader audiences. It’s inspiring to see what they can do.
That’s just not me, however. I like to spend what hobby time I have gaming and rolling dice. This ultimately lends to painting miniatures quickly so I can get them on the table. I think many of us are like this. While I enjoy looking at professional creations, it comes down to how much time I have and how I want to spend it.
I always felt the need to mention in my videos that I’m not an artist, I do not understand color theory and I’m just an average hobbyist. I no longer do that and I think there is a space for people like me. Remember, it’s your hobby. Enjoy it how you want with what time you have.
